I left the Mary Kay Seminar 2007 with a dream in my heart: to organize a road race to benefit the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation to raise funds for breast cancer research. Upon arriving home to tell my family, I 'ran' into the typical objections of such a crazy idea. I overcame each one of them, knowing I had been called to this mission.
I first had to overcome the question, "Do you have ANY idea how much work goes into a race?" My answer was simple: "No I don't have ANY idea, but I'm up for anything!" Then came: "Do you have any idea where you'd hold the event?" Again, my answer was, "Nope, but I'll figure something out!" And finally, when I was told, "Most 'first events' attract less than 100 participants so don't expect more than that." And I said, "That's fine with me, but I think we can get more than that!"
It became very apparent that God's hands were a part in planning this event from the very beginning! From securing the location, to getting underwriting sponsors, to finding our INCREDIBLE volunteers, to a PERFECT October day....He was there! We were blessed beyond my wildest imagination!
The 2008 event raised over $14,000 for the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation! We had over 70 volunteers and 497 participants!
I want to thank my 'behind the scenes' volunteers:
Eric Ringnalda - Race Director, Maureen Stanage -Organizational Director, Megan Ringnalda - Publication Director, Cathy Koning -Webmistress.
